Program History:
 

The Pathways Program was developed by Carolyn Acker, then Executive Director of RPCHC, together with Norman Rowen, the first Pathways Program Director. The Pathways to Education Program was born out of the vision of Regent Park’s Community Health Centre: that the children of the community would become the doctors, nurses, social workers, community health workers, and administrators of the Health Centre and within the community. The flagship Pathways to Education model in Regent Park welcomed its first cohort of Grade 9 students in Sept. 2001.

 

The Pathways Regent Park program is our largest program with approximately 750 students enrolled and will have 12 graduated classes this summer.

Pathways’ catchment area also includes nearby buildings as part of TCHC’s new Regent Park footprint for families relocated by TCHC as part of the Revitalization Project.

 

Regent Park is currently undergoing a Revitalization project that will see Canada’s oldest social housing complex transformed into a mixed-income, mixed-use neighbourhood, with rental buildings, market condominium buildings, townhomes, commercial space, community facilities, active parks and open space. Begun in 2005, the project is anticipated to take 15-20 years to complete.

Community Partnerships:

 

As host of the Pathways to Education program, Regent Park Community Health Centre works with the whole community providing a range of services and programs related to personal health, community health, homelessness, harm reduction, support of immigrants and refugees, youth services among other things.
